SIENNA SMITH

IMG_1555Sienna Smith lives in Sedro-Woolley, Washington, and is the Web Editor for the Cub. This fall she will be a junior at Sedro-Woolley High School. She wants to create a website for the Cub that covers all the events at Sedro-Woolley High school as well as events around the community. Sienna has passion for piano and running. She runs Cross-Country and has competed in State both her freshman and sophomore years. She also runs Track. Sienna wants to share her passion to create an amazing atmosphere in the newsroom.

MELISSA MARTIN

DSC_0360Melissa is the Media and Business Manager at Timberline High School’s The Blazer.  She lives in Lacey, Washington with her little sisters, parents and two dogs.  Melissa has a passion for music, planning to study it in college. She plays piano and sings in two choirs, as well as teaching piano lessons for young children. Melissa also enjoys being a part of her school’s swim team and being with her friends.  Her favorite part of journalism is telling stories that would otherwise go untold and being around everyone on her staff, especially on “Tasty Thursday”.

MARIANNA GILBERT

DSC_0280Marianna Gilbert lives in Bothell, WA and attends Bothell High School. She will be a senior this fall, and is excited to take charge of her publication’s website. She wants to create a cohesive site that covers all the happenings at BHS and give the students another form of media to get news from the school and the surrounding community. Marianna also plays soccer as a goalkeeper and hopes that her direction on the field will help in the newsroom.

CHRIS DANKO

DSC_0297Chris Danko is a straight-up meme master with a passion for the theater and journalism. He is the online editor of the Wenatchee High School student newspaper The Apple Leaf. His goals are to eventually become a news anchor on a major news station. Chris is adept in writing, photography, video, and social media management. Outside of journalism he does many, many plays and also enjoys hiking with his Editor-in-Chief Moses Lurbur and the rest of the Apple Leaf.

Jared loves photography and sports, as well as helping to promote his school’s online site. He has been managing the social media for Humans of WJEA, taking lots of photos for the site. VINCE DEMIERO

Vince DeMiero teaches and advises at Mountlake Terrace H.S. where the student newspaper/website – HAWKEYE – and its student staff have won hundreds of international, national, regional and state awards. DeMiero is a past president of the Washington Journalism Education Association, a board member of the Scholastic Press Rights Commission and served as the local chair for the 1998 JEA/NSPA national convention in Seattle. DeMiero was twice named the WJEA Adviser of the Year, was a Dow Jones Newspaper Fund Distinguished Adviser, is an NSPA Pioneer Award recipient and a recipient of the JEA Medal of Merit. All four of his children graduated from MTHS and he and his wife, Debbie, also have three grandsons.
